David Hampton was born in Paddington, London in 1926. Following WW2 Army service in Palestine and Egypt, he studied at Kingston School of Art, and was selected for the Royal College of Art in the 1950s.
David has worked as as artist all his life, exhibiting in Cork Street, London, the Royal Academy of Art and many other prestigious galleries. He taught alongside his own practice, working at Secondary School & Art Colleges before spending 20 years at the London College of Fashion.
Matisse is a hero of Davids, along with Picasso. David’s work sits alongside the greats of Modern British C20th art; spending time in St Ives he can be placed within the modern art movement there. We are very lucky to be showing his paintings 1950-2018, his work is modern & colourful. David is still creating to this day, working now in pen & pastel.
